Size & Design QA6
Q: The mock up of the new building only seems to have one gym. It seems unlikely that one gym would be adequate for the 900 plus students. I think that two full size gyms and a 2/3 or 3/4 size room would be enough to continue the PE program as it currently is. 10-27
A: First, it is important to remember that these plans are still conceptual, and still need to be refined to ensure all of the components will fit for our district’s programming requirements. That said, the gym is planned to be large enough so that by partitioning it off there will be plenty of space to run a class on each side. Having dedicated cafeteria areas means that the gymnasium can be used throughout the day without having to accommodate for lunch periods. There is a large multi-purpose space within the Early Childhood Learning Center that will be used for gross motor skills activities, and the main multi-purpose area allows the flexibility to be a physical education space for fitness, other than big game activities.
